Gardening is a bit of a chore for some people. It’s not something that they love doing, it’s just something that they need to do because they don’t want an overgrown, scruffy garden. But other people absolutely love getting out in the garden and looking after all of their plants. If you’re one of those people, have you ever thought about turning your love of gardening into a career? Most people haven’t considered it but there are actually quite a few different jobs that put your gardening skills to good use. These are some of the best ways to make money from your love of gardening.

Landscape Gardening
This is the most obvious way that you can find a career in gardening. All of those people that hate getting their hands dirty but still want to have a nice garden are willing to pay somebody else to do it for them. That’s where you come in. If you set up your own business as a landscape gardener, you can make some good money. The initial costs can be fairly high because you’ll need to buy a van and lots of equipment like lawn mowers and hedge trimmers etc. but once you’ve done that, your running costs are next to nothing. Finding your first clients can be tough but if you just do some work for friends and family to get a bit of a name for yourself, word of mouth should help you find more jobs in the future. The only downside to being a landscape gardener is that the work is very seasonal. During the spring and summer, you should be able to find enough work to get by. But when the cold weather comes around, it’s likely to dry up. That’s why it’s important to manage your money well and make sure you’ve saved up enough to get you through winter. You should look for some alternative sources of income during the cold months as well.

If you like the creative aspects of gardening but you’re not too keen on the labor intensive stuff like digging or mowing the lawn, floristry is the ideal career for you. It’s ideal for creatively minded people because you need a bit of an artistic streak if you’re going to put together bouquets of flowers. Floristry is a lot harder than people realize so you’ll need to take an online floristry course before you can start applying for jobs. Once you’re qualified, you could also consider starting your own floristry business as well.

Gardening Blogs
Gardening is hard because all plants have their own specific needs, so if you don’t really know what you’re doing, it can be tough. That’s why aspiring gardeners often turn to blogs for advice. If you’re an avid gardener already, you should consider starting your own blog filled with great gardening advice. If you build a big enough following, you can start putting ads on the blog or doing sponsored posts to make money from it.

Gardening doesn’t just have to be a hobby, it can be a great career choice as well.

  • Those are great tips Nadine. I think starting a gardening blog and generating different income streams is a great idea and is something you could do as well as a regular gardening business
