I’m spending this weekend with my boy – some one-on-one time with my youngest child.
My hubby and daughter went off to Wembley with the extended family for the rugby Challenge Cup Final, so my son and I stayed home to have some fun of our own. He is a real homebody and loves chilling out in the comfort of his home and I’m not a rugby fan, so we chose to avoid the sport and turn to music instead!
At the start of the school holidays the family went to Camp Bestival where we sang and danced and enjoyed being outdoors. We love music as a family and my son has always been a bit of a rock star. He would play the air guitar in the nursery school nativity play when he was supposed to be playing a sheep and he dances around all the time.
So staying on a festival theme, and as it is the last bank holiday weekend of the year, we decided to have a festival at home. Tomorrow is the date of The Caravan Club’s Big Little Tent Festival, a new event where The Caravan Club are encouraging families to pitch up and camp outside in their gardens over the weekend as a way of spending more time outdoors. I was sent some bunting and a flag to help me create a festi-vibe, and whilst we won’t be sleeping outside tonight, my boy and I are having dinner in our tent and listening to some tunes.
My son and I created a den and for lighting we used his new Head Light from Spearmark. This battery operated lamp is colour changing and is activated by noise. When we sing, the head lights up – especially around the mouth area which flashes as we talk which is funny! It has given us lots of laughs to pretend to be the Head Light talking!
The Head Light (pictured right) is available from Amazon, B&Q and Argos for £16.99 from September 2015 – we were sent an advance sample to try out.
Spearmark also manufacture licenced products like the Minions lights (pictured left) and we used a couple in our tent. The Minions lights also change colour, and helped to create a disco feel last night as we ate supper!
I am really enjoying spending this time with my boy – he’s such a unique child, the coolest kid in his class (although I may be a little biased!) He loves karate and parkour, music and Minecraft but what he loves most is cuddles with his mum and chilling out at home – long may that last!
Press samples were used in this post – thank you to the brands who sent them and helped to make my little boy smile.
My little boy would love that minion light!
haha mine sleeps with his!!
We would love a teepee like that – my boy would love it.
They all love a den, don’t they?!
Love his tepee! The light looks pretty cool too! It’s great to spend a bit of 1:1 time with each child. Charlie and I went to see Jurassic World last week, I loved him chattering non stop with excitement on the way home!
Thanks! I agree, I love to give them both a bit of special ‘mum’ time!
It sounds like an awesome weekend and that tepee is fantastic! x
We’ve had it a while and it’s on its last legs but it worked thankfully!
Sounds like a lot of fun. My son loves camping in the garden too!
My kids would love a den with Minions toys. My daughter and husband have camped in our garden but I kept to the warmth of my bed!
Aw I love one on one time with my children – I have a weekly date with my daughter and do something regularly with my son too x x
It’s great to have time alone with each isn’t it?
I just adore the teepee – I rarely get to spend one on one time with any of mine but they get so much out of it
It must have been lovely to spend some time together. We only have one but I can totally appreciate it must be hard sometimes getting that one on one time. That tepee is awesome, he looks super happy with it too!
It was lovely to have some alone time and hubby says he really enjoyed alone time with our daughter too so both kids got special parent time over the weekend!
One to one quality time is so important, he looks so pleased to have you all to himself.xx
Bless him – he was!
What a wonderful boy you have there. I bet you will always be close as he grows up and what a great way to enjoy some “adult” time together. I know my boys would love the chance of some one on one time for something like this. A great adventure for a great kid. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.
Aww thanks Fiona – I think he’s pretty special too! x
i love the minion lamp and the teepee/wigwam/tent is fab
It’s lovely to spend time full on one child. Looks like you had fun and I love the teepee 🙂 X
Such a lovely photo, I hope you have a great time together, just the two of you. It’s great to do things like this so you can keep that special bond. 🙂 x
Looks like some fun Mummy and son time 🙂
It certainly was! I actually carved out some mummy and daughter time the week after too so they’ve both had their fill! haha
nice to get some quality one on one time and sounds like the two of you had more fun at home than you would have done at the rugby
That’s for sure!
