It’s the start of festival season and having not attended any at all last year, I’m really feeling it this year! We love to attend Camp Bestival in Dorset, and have been many times before, we know exactly what we want to do and see when we are there.
We always enjoy the announcements that Camp Bestival make in the months leading up, as new acts are added to the schedule and keep a keen eye on their Twitter and Facebook feeds for the latest info! To help me get into the fest-mood, I wanted to share 5 things we are looking forward to most about Camp Bestival this year:
The Fabulous Lounge Swingers. This is a band we first discovered at Camp Bestival in 2014 when we happened upon them by accident. They were so unique and vibrant – plus I love that they don’t look like typical ‘pop stars / singers’. They have something about Hollywood glamour about them and they gave their own spin to popular songs that we love. I recorded this video of them in 2015 as I think they are great:
Plus, as a result of finding them at Camp Bestival, we even made a point of staying at a certain hotel in Bristol on New Year’s Eve in 2015 so we could watch them perform. We are massive fans! (On a similar note we love to discover new bands that we don’t already know at CB. The year we saw Ed Sheeran in the Big Top Tent is still a for memory for all of us)
Caravanserai. My husband absolutely loves this area – I think he must have some gypsy in him as he doesn’t know why but he is attracted to the vintage caravans and thinks the whole vibe there is great. We love to go to this unique area and enjoy the music, drink and watch the world go by – it really is an area unlike what we have seen before. We all love the theatrical element and colour of Camp Bestival.
Spending time with family together…. and the Wall of Death! Every year we make a point of going to see the family who operate the Wall of Death perform their stunts and watch their moves in awe! It usually is the start to our weekend as we tend to do this on the Thursday when we are just set up and before any music starts. We grab some food, watch the Wall of Death and plan out our weekend with the almanac, and now we know that Camp Bestival has really begun!
The firework finale. I can’t even put into words how fabulous this event is. On the first year I was at CB, I went to bed early on the Sunday as I was tired – my first festival and all! My kids and husband put me to shame as they stayed and enjoyed the fireworks. They came back to tell me about the best firework display they had ever seen, and how I’d missed a treat. I was determined to see them the next year and I did. After that, I would never miss the fireworks, I know some people leave the festival early because of work on Monday morning but I’d say, ‘book a days’ holiday or call in sick!’ The fireworks are worth it that much!

I’ve never been to Bestival and would love to. The attraction for me of Camp Bestival though is the dates – first week of the school holidays so we are free from routines for a few weeks!
We really enjoyed going to bestival, but we already have plans this year. It is great if the weather is good.

We’ve never been no. I’d not heard about it until this year but it does look great fun
Now it’s on your radar I bet you see more online about it – I will certainly do more blog posts about this years’ festival!
We’ve never been but every year I say I’m going to go – maybe one day 😉
