Girls night in!

Written by
self tan range

My teenage daughter and I spent some lovely time together last week, having a girls night in! I’m completely honoured that she chose to leave the Snapchat and Netflix alone for an evening to chill out with her old mum, I wonder if the fact that I have got some beauty products to review had anything to do with it?!!

Nevertheless, I don’t mind her reasons for being with me – as long as she is, and we did have a lovely evening. Here are some of the products we tried out… The new self tanning range from Dr Organic!

It was fun to teach her how to do a full self tan. She is the one who teaches me so many things lately, did you know how to get ‘brows on fleek?’ Well I do now. If you are not sure what that means, just ask your nearest teenage girl, she’ll know! But as my daughter had never done a self tan before and wanted to try, I showed her how we have to exfoliate first, paying particular attention to extra dry bits like ankles, elbows and knees! After a shower, we dry off and apply body lotion then on to the tan!

Here is the range

She used the light shade and I went for medium. We helped each other do our backs and the backs of our hands, so we could wash off the tan we’d already applied then we stood with our arms out like zombies as we waited for it all to dry! In the shower we used the latest KORRES Almond Cherry shower gel, a fresh and luxurious feeling gel with a nice fragrance then the Korres Almond Cherry body lotion to moisturise. The self tan range comes with a body lotion too but it is a tan extender so I will use that now this self tan is applied, in the coming days.

On the photo you can also see some Wellbeing Water water by Roger & Gallet. This wasn’t part of our pampering night but they are lovely beautiful bottles of Roger&Gallet’s latest fragrance that are perfect to carry round in our handbags to have a spritz of during the day. (Well for me anyway, she’s not allowed to carry this to school!) It’s nice to have a fragrance top-up during the day. This is a fresh, light Wellbeing Water, it comes in 50ml and helps me to feel new again, the way you do at the start of the day before the elements attach themselves to you! These unique spritz bottles have a different wellbeing benefit to each fragrance. The Fleur de Figuier promotes relaxation and the Fleur d’Osmanthus is for exhilaration!

Now we have started having a mother- daughter pampering night together, I want it to continue. I never did this with her before now as she was too young, not interested anyway and I also didn’t want to send a message that beauty is everything. I believe that children should enjoy being children and not give a damn how they look. But now the teenage years have started and she is naturally more interested in beauty routines as I was at her age, this is my chance to gently guide her into appreciating self care and self love over ‘beauty’. Nurturing our bodies and appreciating them for what they do for us rather than how they look.

For next week she wants to me get out the foot spa which was relegated to the loft a few years ago, so we can soak our feet in bubbles and aromatherapy. It’s a great idea and another chance to bond with my baby. No matter how old she gets I will always want to be with her and look after her, whilst teaching her how to look after herself.

  • What a fun girls night in, it’s great when we an actually show our teens something they don’t know but want to know! I have no idea what brows on fleek means and only having boys (in France too!) I don’t suppose i’ll be enightened any time soon!

    • No Phoebe, but I bet the French girls have their own sayings!! It was a really fun night, thanks.

  • I love this idea. I’m betting my girl would too, though I’ve never been a self-tan person. I should probably give it a go though, as she would definitely enjoy venturing into that age. We sometimes have a girls movie night and I’m loving rediscovering some of the chick flics – Devil Wears Prada was recently a huge hit with her!

    • Oh wow, I love the Devil Wears Prada too! My daughter and I are having a movie night this weekend actually. I may suggest that one!

  • A mother / daughter night sounds like lots of fun. I am not a self tan fan but the foot therapy night sounds like fun

  • Mine’s probably still a bit too young for the tan but I do like the pamper idea, thanks!

  • I wish I had had more input from my Mum sometimes as I made some shocking make up mistakes ha ha! But seriously, pampering, self care it is such a lovely thing to teach our kids. Want to know more about the eyebrow thing, will have to google! What a lovely post, thanks for joining #happyandhome and thanks for letting me know about the comment function- it appears to be back, but that’s not a hint, you have spent enough time on attempting that! xx

  • Oh I love the idea of a girls night in. I remember my mum taking me to a makeup counter to get a lesson as she said that if she showed me it would be 1970’s make up!

  • I love the idea of a mother / daughter evening and my daughter, although a little young at the moment, would LOVE it! I think I need to move into the world of self tanning!

  • Isn’t it great when your daughters get old enough to enjoy this sort of evening? I’m very relieved to hear that I am not the only Mum who is getting lessons on make-up etc from her daughters – I have even learnt how to curl my hair with straighteners! Just imagine how glamorous I will be in a few years!
