When I was at university my boyfriend and I had a long distance romance for a year. It was really tough – being away from the one you love, but as the saying goes, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and he is now my husband and we have two beautiful children.
I remember exactly what it was like to know that somewhere under the same sky as me, someone I loved with all my heart was out there but I couldn’t touch him when I wanted to. I couldn’t see him or even talk to him when I wanted as this was before everyone had mobile phones and a chat involved pre-arranging so I could queue for the public payphone in the halls of residence and he could walk to the local phonebook as he didn’t have a home phone! We really did have to ‘fight for this love’!
However one thing that got us through were long letters and little gifts to make each other smile. We used to anticipate the post coming as it could mean some communication from our loved one and I think that even now, 20 years on, we’ve never lost that romance. Because we know how hard it is to be apart, we make the most of each moment we are together, every day.
So if you are apart from your loved one, here is a great idea to bring you closer. These ‘Open When’ labels make a beautiful gift or token of your appreciation for your partner. It doesn’t have to cost much if anything to make your loved one smile, and these labels can be used on letters (totally free of charge!) or on a small gift that will bring them joy… A chocolate bar or lip balm could be an idea – something inexpensive but right for them.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, these make a great low-cost gift idea!
Open When printables… The first one is blank to put in your own message!
I used the 199.6mm x 289.1mm removable matt white label from Online Labels.com to print out these stickers. As I’d created a custom printable design, I decided to print onto one big sticker and cut out the individual labels – the big sticker I used was the A4 labels! This was me with my lightbox, drawing the gridlines so I could cut neatly…
All you do is print the ‘Open When’ labels using the link to the free printable image in this blog post. I have left the first label blank so you can add your own message. Then apply the labels to whatever you choose! Envelopes, boxes, padded envelopes, paper bags. You can get really creative!
Here is a body scrub I made and used an ‘Open When’ label on the bottle…
