Posh Sandwiches with Primula

Last week I was lucky enough to be treated to afternoon tea with the girls! It was at a very posh London hotel and we had such an amazing day, but it inspired me to want to create a few posh sandwiches at home using my trusty Primula so I could recreate the day!

Here’s a few recipes to make your own posh sandwiches for afternoon tea or any special occasion!

The menu:

  • Yorkshire ham, Primula Cheese with Ham and sliced Sugardrop Tomatoes on rustic wholemeal granary bread
  • Primula Cheese with Chives on a farmhouse loaf topped with peppery wild rocket leaves
  • Classic cheese & cucumber triangles made with Primula Original Cheese & fresh sliced cucumber
  • Scottish smoked salmon, Primula Light Cheese on a bed of leafy rocket

The sandwiches are simple to make yet look very effective when served on a wooden platter or other suitably posh serving dish! We enjoyed these with some freshly poured loose leaf tea in a china cup!

To enjoy a posh afternoon tea yourself, here are a few key tips:

  • Afternoon tea usually serves about 4-5 different types of sandwich
  • All sandwiches should be small – so you can eat in 3 bites
  • You can make triangles, squares and finger sandwiches for variety – all with the crusts cut off!
  • Don’t choose flavours that are too strong, you don’t want to overpower the cake!
  • Get some bite sized buns and scones with jam and cream for a sumptuous afternoon tea!
  • I hope this post has inspired you to have a go. Do you have any other tips for a posh afternoon tea at home?

    • I am sorry, but I am laughing here. In my mind primula and posh is just a total oxymoron. I will always be a child of the 70’s hen primula was anything but posh!

    • I love these, there’s nothing like a posh afternoon tea with little sandwiches. My mum was a huge fan of the primula tubes but we would only have them for parties or Christmas as she called it posh cheese, lol.

    • Love these, some great tips and this has definitely inspired me to do a little afternoon tea for my children, especially with half term coming up. Love the sound of those cheeses too!

    • This sounds so lovely! I want to do an afternoon tea for my friends now. What a lovely idea, and doesn’t seem too difficult to do either. 🙂

    • Yummy, one of my favourite sandwiches is primula with cucumber. I could eat my weight in cucumber!! I might give Afternoon Tea a whirl with my seriously fussy eaters, it might just spur them on 🙂
