One of the exciting things about working from home is when you skip out on a sunny day for a lunch break with a friend! It doesn’t happen often – I’m usually eating last night’s leftovers at my desk, but this week I had a lovely lunch at an old favourite restaurant, Jamie’s Italian!
The team at Jamie’s Italian in York invited me along to sample their Super Lunch menu which runs during the week, Monday to Friday from 12-6pm. I have been to Jamie’s restaurants in Leeds and Manchester, but not to York so it was a nice chance to see the place and try out this new menu which I’d not seen before.
The York restaurant is set back from the main street, down a little alleyway which opens up into a pretty courtyard that you can see in the pictures below. There are signs on the main street so you can find it, but I’d say do pay attention to seek it out as I think it may be easy to walk straight past if you are expecting to see a whole restaurant storefront.
The atmosphere inside was calm, making for a very pleasant environment in which to have a good gossip and catch up with my friend! We were seated straightaway and went straight to work on the menu, I was so hungry, having had a light breakfast in anticipation!
As it was a treat, I went all out. We chose the three course option of this menu which represents great value at just £13.95 per head. You can also opt for two courses from the Super Lunch menu for just £11.95 per person.
Doesn’t the photo collage above make you want to lick the screen? It was all absolutely delicious. Here’s what we had.
Starters
Truffle Tagliatelle: Jamie’s famous handmade pasta served in a luxurious, silky black truffle butter with aged Parmesan, nutmeg & more shaved black truffle… Mmmm!
Tomato Bruschetta: Slow roasted cherry tomatoes, buffalo ricotta, basil & extra virgin olive oil – so nice!
Mains:
Italian steak & fries: Marinated skirt steak, flash grilled & served with garlic butter, aged Parmesan, slaw & fries
Classic Super Food Salad: A super-fresh combination of avocado, roasted beets, mixed pulses & grains, sprouting broccoli, pomegranate & spicy seeds with harissa dressing & cottage cheese
Puddings:
Refreshing lemon sorbet topped with lemon zest & fresh mint
Epic Brownie: Served warm with chocolate sauce, salted caramel ice-cream & caramelised popcorn (The diet went ‘bang’ this day for me!!)
The restaurant filled up pretty quickly for a Monday lunchtime and was serving a lot of diners by the time we left. It must be a popular place, my friend said that she had been several times before and I know I’d go back!
You can see the Super Lunch menu for yourself here. The website for Jamie’s Italian in York is here.
Have you ever been to a Jamie’s Italian restaurant before? Where was it? Or do you fancy trying it now you have read about my experience? Let me know in the comments!
Lovely pics Nadine! You’ve just reminded me 2 things. I must must visit York as I’ve always wanted too, and 2 I must go to Jamie’s again!
