Heidi is the Co-founder and Creative Director of luxury swim and resort-wear company, Heidi Klein and has a fabulous sense of style, whilst being a busy mum to three children aged four, six and eight. Here’s what she had to say!
Q: Heidi, how would you describe your style?
A: Casual, classic.
Q: Have you always dressed this way?
A: My style has morphed over the years from being a slave to catwalk trends to now selecting a few key pieces that blend and accentuate my wardrobe. I’ve always been drawn to vintage styles and enjoy hunting for unique pieces at flea markets and vintage shops. You can see this also come through with our 50’s swimwear styles.
Q: How important do you think it is to follow style when you’re a mum?
A: Ultimately, I think it’s important for all mums to wear clothes that make them feel confident and gorgeous. I always try to buy pieces that I absolutely love and look good, not because they are trending at that time.
Q: Do you think you ‘lose yourself’ when you have kids and if so, how do you stop that happening?
A: Of course, it is so easy to lose yourself with so many pressures and commitments from children, work, family and everything else. Balancing a busy work schedule with children is always difficult so I am careful to carve out a little time for myself, I love taking early morning walks with my dog before everyone else is awake. I’m also lucky to have the help of an amazing nanny as well as a supportive family.
Q: What are you wearing today? Where is it from?
A: I have a variety of white shirts in my wardrobe that I wear all year round. The shirt is a James Perse one I bought in New York.
Heidi Gosman, her colleague Penny Klein and their team design the collections themselves in their studio at their London head office. They use their research from old magazines, movies, attending runway shows and Heidi’s constant travels as inspiration for each collection. Then they sit down and decide on names, styles and prints for each story.
Heidi and Penny decided to create Heidi Klein in the first place after working together in marketing and business before becoming good friends. They found that they complemented each other’s strengths and weaknesses perfectly. When they were working together on a project for a client about airport spend and holiday mind set, they thought this is a brilliant idea, why don’t we do this ourselves?
Their new children’s beachwear for girls has been hugely popular for the past year and they are launching a range for boys in November. These are tight collections with SPF fabrics and beautiful styles that children will enjoy wearing. You can learn more about Heidi, Penny and their collections at www.heidiklein.com

I’ve never really been one to follow trends… I’ve always worn what I feel good and comfortable in. Lovely interview!
Thank you!
I enjoy reading these posts Nadine 😉
I tend to wear what I feel comfortable in and don’t feel like I have a style as such x
Comfort is key!!
I love these interviews, I admit I wear what I fancy. x
I love reading insightful interviews and I think it’s so true not to looseyourself in becoming a mum. Great post x
I find living abroad has really changed how I dress. In Denmark, there are no bright colours so it was all black and grey. Here they are a lot less fashion conscious (!) so I find it easy to feel stylish! Interesting interview, thank you! 🙂
I love to hear how living abroad differs from what we do in the UK, funny how the cultures we immerse ourselves in create our outward appearance although what’s inside stays the same!
I wish I was more stylish. My mum always told me to wear clothes that fitted well
Great tips, I am trying to get back my sense of style after spending most of the last 5 years pregnant and I am all about the classic pieces rather than trends. I will have to check out her swimwear as well as I need something new!
It’s hard to know what your style is sometimes after children as our bodies change so much!
I love buying clothes, now my son is a bit older I have more time to make an effort. Still get covered in mucky hand prints by the end of the day 🙂
Yup! I hear you! One thing I did enjoy was being able to wear beads and necklaces again as you can’t do that much with babies!
Lovely interview – i really need to find my own style
It’s always interesting to find out more about a person behind a fashion label.
I think so too! Thanks for commenting.
I keep an eye on the trends but in my glorious wise old age have a better understanding of what suits me so don’t go ‘off piste’ that often … well I hope i don’t?!
Glorious – yes. Wise – yes. But old? Not a chance Anthea! x
I feel like I really need to get back in fashion I hardly buy clothes and if I do they are usually from the supermarket and ill fitting! EKKK!
I’ve heard a lot about Heidi Klein swimwear so it’s great to hear from the lady herself! x
I’ve never really been one to follow trends… I’ve always worn what I feel good and most comfortable in, but I do like to see the current trends x
I love watching your interviews especially video ones. I don’t really follow trends
I definitely don’t follow fashion and tend to wear whatever the wife tells me, I am colourblind and my choices would look awful!
Ah- first rule of fashion – listen to the lady! Therefore you are doing well:-)
What a great interview Nadine! I used to follow fashion a lot more than I do now. Busier I guess. Absolutely adore Heidi Klein though 🙂
Their Westbourne Grove store is amazing Charly! So bright and classy, even in winter!
