The Garden Kitchen

This summer we’ve done a fair amount of driving, from long trips to a music festival to shorter outings to see friends or visit attractions. So last weekend we wanted to stay local and have a nice family meal out – we visited the new Garden Kitchen.

It’s always refreshing to discover something new in your area and the Garden Kitchen Restaurant is the newly renovated dining experience at the Wyevale garden centre in Wakefield (Carr Gate) – we went to see what it had to offer!

Of the 149 Wyevale centres nationwide, only a few will get the new Garden Kitchen restaurant. Here is manager Sharon and her team who were very attentive on the day we visited.

There was a good selection of hot and cold foods from toasties, jacket spuds, and sandwiches to some specials and a nice array of desserts.  My husband and I went for the hot beef carvery sandwich which comes with an edible flower!

My son chose from the kid’s menu (chicken goujons – they looked lovely), my daughter enjoyed fish & chips and then we had a lovely dessert. The prices were very reasonable from the snacks to the meals and we all cleared our plates!

The food was fresh and tasty and the atmosphere calm and unhurried. Adjoining the restaurant is a children’s soft play area which can be hired out exclusively for two hours for children’s parties. But mums and tots can come and enjoy a cappuccino anytime while the kids play! Having been to many soft play area parties when my children were little, I have to say it’s nice to find a place that is airy and open, whereas some soft play areas can be quite dark and dingy affairs.

Thank you to Wyevale garden centre for hosting us in the Garden Kitchen Restaurant. You can visit for yourself at Wyevale garden centre (Carr Gate), Old Bradford Road, Carr Gate, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF2 0SY. Tel: 0844 288 5074 or visit www.wyevalegardencentres.co.uk. We were provided with lunch for four people to enable me to write this review and all opinions expressed are my own honest viewpoint.
