You have heard the saying, you can take a girl out of (name of place) but you can’t take (name of place) out of the girl! No matter how far and wide you travel, you always want to come back home and this is true of me and Yorkshire.
2016 will be something of a year of adventure for me. My blogging work has seen me taking on some fantastic travel ambassadorships and this year I will be going on holiday with both Carnival Cruise Lines and Canvas Holidays so that I can share my experiences and offer a blogging mum’s perspective on these companies for family travel. In addition I have a vacation planned with my nearest and dearest, and we also have two family weddings this year. The hen party for one of those weddings will see me taking a girls’ trip to Amsterdam (a place I have never been and always wanted to visit) and then later in the year the other family wedding takes place in Sicily.
There will be various weekend breaks along the way, some work related (like going to #BML16) and some just for fun. I’m blessed to have created a job for myself that gives me access to these fantastic opportunities and also to have such an awesome family around me where I can celebrate their fabulous weddings(!) But I also know that as much as I love travel, I also love being home.
Yorkshire may not always be the sunniest place on earth but it is green and beautiful. There is a lot of history in the walls – just stroll around the Georgian architecture of York, or the wide range of notable buildings and design styles on the street of Leeds. A day spent with your camera in one of these cities with no particular agenda is a day of luxury, and one I must indulge in soon- as I type, I’m reaching for my lens!
I wanted to share with you a video I created about some of my favourite places in Leeds.
Have you ever been to Leeds or Yorkshire in general? Where did you visit? Let me know in the comments. If you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods, do stop a while and enjoy Yorkshire hospitality. One thing we are excellent at is making a pot of tea!
I visited Leeds many years ago now, it is a beautiful city and i’d love to go back. Great shopping and beautiful architecture too. I love Yorkshire, such a wonderful part of the country and probably somewhere we should visit more than just York town centre, although this is a favourite city of mine, we took my daughter last year for her birthday and a wonderful place to just gaze at buildings and history.
I love York too for its history. I am really lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country.
Sounds like a brilliant year ahead and I look forward to reading all about your adventures. I have been to Yorkshire many times as I have an Aunt living there. I haven’t visited for quite a while though… maybe it’s time to plan a trip.
Yes! Plan a trip – come see us for some Yorkshire hospitality!!
There are so many great places across Yorkshire – cities and countryside. I know why so many people love it there!
It is certainly a place that sparks real affection in people! Thanks for commenting.
I lived on the South Yorkshire/Derbyshire for about ten years but my experience of Yorkshire other than Sheffield is pretty limited. My other half spent his teenage years living in Brighouse and then moved to Leeds. he loves Leeds.
Sheffield is somewhere I visit fairly often but there’s so much more to Yorkshire than just South Yorkshire! The beaches along the east coast are lovely too.
My daughter is studying in Leeds so recently we spent a weekend there and visited York. It’s really nice there.
The uni life is excellent in Leeds – I bet she’s having a blast!
I LOVE Yorkshire. It drew us back from the South East and I am a proud Yorkshire woman.
Me too. Thanks Jen.
Congratulations on the ambassadorships, I have been checking out canvas holidays myself. I was born in Yorkshire and still have family in Leeds and long to visit – really must make it happen this year
Oh Kara, do come! Especially if you have family here. Give me a shout and I’ll get the kettle on!!
I went to Leeds absolutely years ago and it’s definitely more than time to return!
Leeds is lovely, so much to see and do here.
I have never been *gasps* – as a south coast girl it is a long way from home for me – but now my teen is at uni in Manchester I am gradually learning more about oop north – and love what I have seen so far – must make a trip to yorkshire soon!
Ooh you will have to come up now your teen is in the neighbouring county… It’s the law!
I live in North Yorkshire and there are some beautiful places here x x
We’re practically neighbours!
My husband’s parents live in Harrogate and he grew up there, so he knows Leeds well! I’ve only been a couple of times, but enjoyed it. Harrogate’s beautiful, too.
Yes Harrogate is lovely. We have family living there and I love the Turkish Baths there!
I’m originally a Yorkshire girl so I know just what you mean! Sounds like you have a fantastic year planned for travelling, enjoy.
Thank you – 2016 is the year of travel!!
I have been to Yorkshire once with the kids and had a lovely time 🙂 Well done on all your ambassadorships! Lots of exciting travel adventures to look forward to x
Thank you – loads to enjoy this year! 🙂
Oh this is wonderful Nadine! Yorkshire is a fantastic place with so much to do and beautiful countryside too. We love it there although we’ve not been for a while – we have friends in York who moved to London!
