I have some very exciting news, my family and I are going to be Warwick Castle Ambassadors for 2017 which means that we get to visit the historic family attraction in Warwickshire, the Midlands, and explore what it has to offer for days out, short stays and all the history intwined within this 1,100 year old castle and estate where historical nobility resided centuries ago.
Bringing history to life is one of the things that a day out to significant attractions like this creates and fortunately living in the UK, we are steeped in history from our various styles of architecture to the great stories, myths and legends of days gone by. My kids have both enjoyed dressing up and role pay as young children – my son particularly enjoyed dressing up as a knight with his sword and shield, and play acting like this helps kids to develop a sense of self and explore their creativity. So I will be interested as to what they make of Warwick Castle now that they are a teenager and a tween! My son is still rather partial to some fancy dress so I will encourage him to bring his sword when we go visit!
Warwick Castle have quite an entertaining Twitter feed, featuring snippets of history mixed with photos of their wildlife and notifications of their special offers. You can follow them on Twitter @WarwickCastle.
I am planning to visit Warwick Castle very soon, so will share my experiences in a future blog post, however if you are looking for a February half term idea, they have some special offers available. You can book now to save up to 25% on half term short breaks – that’s two-day half term breaks from £47 per person per night* where families can sleepover at the castle staying in Knight’s Village that offers medieval-style accommodation within the grounds of Warwick Castle. The package includes overnight accommodation in a riverside woodland lodge complete with themed evening entertainment such as Knight’s School; breakfast; car parking and two days’ priority access to Warwick Castle!
Plus, the Mighty Trebuchet is one of their popular attractions that is back and preparing to fire for the 10,000th time during February half term! You can watch this amazing spectacle from the Riverside Arena and marvel as the medieval machine of war catapults cannonballs over 150 metres. Each projectile weighs more than 14kg which is the equivalent of 140 blueberry muffins! – Imagine that! The Trebuchet is firing twice daily from 18th – 26th February.
I can’t wait to go and enjoy a truly historical day out, and may even get in some fancy dress myself!!
*February half-term short breaks (17th – 25th Feb) start from £188 per night (£47pppn) based on a maximum of two adults, two children and one infant sharing a Woodland Lodge. More information and to book now warwick-castle.com for the best price guarantee.
