Over New Year’s my husband and I had the opportunity to visit a country house hotel that had been refurbished to a lovely high standard, yet remains steeped in history – in the heart of the English countryside.
Warbrook House Hotel is a Grade I listed mansion in Hampshire, set in 121 acres of lush grounds, and is home to a brand new spa – which we were delighted to visit! The trip came about because of the newly opened spa – I was invited to an opening party but as the location is 5 hours’ drive from my home I couldn’t attend. But it is exactly the sort of thing I’d love to write about and we agreed that I could stay and do a review instead!
This hotel did not disappoint – the grounds and the venue itself is beautiful. The grounds are on the Grade II Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and there is even a Versailles canal – a Victorian waterway that surrounds Warbrook. The hotel underwent a multi-million pound refurbishment in 2018 and has been brought up to date with all modern conveniences, despite having sat there since the 1700’s. The building in the grounds where the spa is now located has been many things over the years, including a divorce lawyers office! However I can’t think of anything else more perfect than a spa to add a compliment to the already grand hotel.
Upon arrival I was quick to shoot a few outdoor images whilst I still had the daylight, within an hour of these shots being taken it was dark outside, but that made for even more lovely spa captures of the hot tubs!!
Our room was on the first floor, one of 74 en-suite bedrooms in the main building. This hotel is also a popular wedding destination and would make a glorious location to look after all the guests! As you can see the room was spacious and comfortable and the bed gave us a great night’s sleep. We had an en-suite bathroom which had a lovely high end look and fluffy robes and towels for our stay.
The hotel has a restaurant, lounge and a bar downstairs, where we enjoyed pre dinner drinks. We then ate in the Canal View Restaurant. They have a really good selection of spirits I noticed! Especially gin which seems to be a theme around the hotel and spa! Someone at Warbrook loved gin!
The spa was really well appointed – it has six treatment rooms including three to accommodate couples, a mani-pedi lounge, a relaxation lounge, a sauna, a steam room, a gym with exercise machines and weights, a ‘gin and bubbles’ bar and outside area which includes a fire pit and those hot tubs!
We really enjoyed our visit – the therapists were friendly and knowledgeable and I enjoyed chatting to Kirsty about the history of the place. Whilst we were there we got the opportunity to try out one of the double treatment rooms for a couples massage. The one we chose was the ESPA Back, Face & Scalp Treatment, here is what the brochure says about that:
ESPA Back, Face & Scalp Treatment 85 mins
Unravel tension, instantly boost your complexion and restore inner calm with our most renowned treatment. Targeted massage techniques combine with the purest aromatherapy oils and a highly personalised facial helping you to look and feel your very best – restored, de-stressed and beautifully radiant.
Includes: Back exfoliation – back massage with or without hot stones – Inner beauty facial – scalp massage
I can confirm that it was heavenly! My muscles soothed and relaxed and I walked out of the treatment feeling very dreamy!
With celebrations like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day coming up, it would be a great time to try out the Park Spa or Afternoon Tea at the hotel. They serve a traditional afternoon tea for just £19.95 per person or you can add chilled Prosecco for an extra £6 per person.
My husband and I had a lovely stay at Warbrook House. We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who played a part in making it happen.
